We think you should know how the things you read here are made. This page explains where our recipes come from, how the photographs are produced, where we use AI, and how the site makes money. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch.
How our recipes are written
Salt & Hearth is a recipe reference. Our recipes are adapted from classic and widely published dishes, then standardised into a consistent format: US measurements with metric in brackets, ingredients grouped by stage, and steps that explain why each one matters rather than just what to do.
The written material — the introductions, ingredient notes, method explanations, variations, storage advice and FAQs — is drafted with the help of AI language models and then reviewed and edited before publishing. Quantities and timings follow standard proportions for the dish.
What that means for you: these are not recipes developed from scratch in a test kitchen, and we do not claim they are. Treat times and temperatures as a starting point for your oven, and taste as you go.
How the photographs are made
The food photography on this site is generated using AI image tools. The images are created to represent the finished dish and the key stages of making it as accurately as we can, but they are illustrations rather than photographs of a specific batch someone cooked.
We mention this plainly because we would rather you knew. Your version will not look identical, and that is normal — it would not look identical to a studio photograph either.
Where we use AI, specifically
- Drafting recipe copy, ingredient notes, variations, storage advice and FAQs
- Generating the food photography
- Writing the descriptions used on our Pinterest pins
We use it because it lets a very small operation publish clearly structured, consistent recipes at a scale we could not otherwise manage. We do not use it to scrape or republish other people’s writing.
Corrections
If a recipe does not work, or a quantity looks wrong, tell us and we will fix it. That feedback is genuinely the most useful thing you can send us — contact us here.
How the site makes money
Salt & Hearth may earn from affiliate links and from advertising. If a link to a product is an affiliate link, we may receive a small commission if you buy through it, at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never determine which recipes we publish or what we say about them.
